About Universals & Contrasts

Universals and Contrasts was created in 2011 as the online and print journal of the NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture (NYI), which was founded in 2003 as a joint program of Stony Brook University (part of the State University of New York system) and St. Petersburg State University. Universals and Contrasts reflects the interdisciplinary nature of NYI in its efforts to combine and contrast the study of the internal working of the human mind with the external relation of the individual to society. In all fields represented in Universals and Contrasts the balance of the universal and the unique is a central question of analysis.
